Blizzard has said one of the things behind the estimation is the amount of
time the previous group took to be completed. Maybe I'm mixing my greens up
here, but don't '...of the Whale' items give Spirit+Stamina? I thought they were
good when leveling healing classes and earn some WOW gold in this game, since they granted
both survivability and mana regen (until, of course, you get a rare). When
levelling, mana regenerates at such a high rate that you do not need spirit at
any point until you hit 88-89, and even then you'd only take it because you
smack into a hard spirit curve at 90. Leveling does that now. Before, you could
run out of mana after only casting a few spells at low-level.
As a Mage, I had to drink after almost every fight when I was low-level and
don’t have much WOW gold. The agility-int gear could technically have
been used by hunters back when they used a mana bar (int gave more mana, and
spirit gave regen, right?) I never went for any int as a hunter, but then, I
didn't get terribly interested in exact gear usage until I started grouping more
in the last 3 expansions. Intellect gave more mana and if you go way back,
increased your chance to skillup on weapons. Spirit regened health and mana, I
went for the Agility and Intellect gear on my Hunter. I didn't prefer to use
Aspects of the Viper, so I was the opposite of those entire idiot Hunters who
put it on and never took it off, doing 50% damage all the time. I would drink
when I needed to.
But a healer would take int over spirit in vanilla. 'Of the Eagle' I think
was the preferred caster random stat item. I dont' remember anyone thinking 'of
the whale' was useful. Although I think there were odder ones like spirit/agilI
never put points into improved wand. I always planned to when I had some
leftover points and need to buy WOW
gold. Never did, then I realized how terrible it was. When aspect of the
viper launched, you didn't do 50% damage. That happened in wrath of the lich
king. In the Burning crusade it just didn't give you the attack power bonus of
Hawk, it would up mana regen, that is all---- In wrath they made it so you would
get mana from flipping to it briefly, but a whole Lot of mana----So rock it in
hawk...flip to viper when you are low on mana.
